Caplin, Barry Wayne, left this life, unexpectedly, on Sept. 9, 2005 in Cedar Park, Tx.. He had an aneurysm. Barry was born Dec. 18, 1951 in St. Louis, MO., the only child of Jack and Addie Caplin; his father and grandparents pre-deceased him and his beloved mother still lives in St. Louis; his only child, Bianca Caplin, of Phoenix, AZ and his two granddaughters, Alex and Kori survive him as well; he is also survived by his best friend/former wife/housemate, Linda Caplin, of Austin, TX, the 12 “furry kids” they shared together and Linda's children, Jason Jewert of Pflugerville, TX, TX and their families; other survivors include all his colleagues and customers of the Nordstroms' family, and his many friends in Austin and St. Louis. He worked in Personal Touch at Nordstrom's in Austin, doing what he did best; giving great service to help people look and feel terrific. Nordstrom's was a perfect fit for Barry's talents and as Lisa, the store manager said, “Barry was a perfect fit for Nordstrom's“. Barry also loved animals and rescued many over his lifetime. Other passions of Barry's included great clothes, watches, jewelry, white castles, twinkies, the ladies and music—especially The Rolling Stones. He saw them many times and took great pleasure in knowing that he and Keith Richards shared the same birthday!. He was a Buddy Rich fanatic and, as a drummer himself, bought new drums every time Rich did, but sold his last set when Buddy died. Barry was flawed, as we all are, and lived life in his own way on his own time. But he was a kind and generous man, with a great sense of humor. He was loyal to his friends, amazing with animals and was loved and will be missed by all who knew him. [published in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch on Oct 7, 2005]

Life is good. Said farewell to financial services marketing to join an education and advocacy "startup" nonprofit organization promoting sustainable development policies in San Antonio. Life has a lot more meaning, now, though a lot less security. Fortunately, our son is in his last year of college! Ironically, he's interested in real estate development.
